On April 15, 1912 the great cruise ship called Titanic sank in the North Atlantic Ocean. About 2,200 people were on this beautiful ship but only 683 people survived the horrible disaster. The Titanic was made by White Star Line in Belfast, Ireland. It took two years(1909-1911) to build. The Titanic was 882 feet long. Titanic had four smoke stacks and was the first ship to have a heated swimming pool. Titanic had one other name “The Unsinkable” (ironically it didn’t live up to its expectations).
The Titanic was heading from Belfast, Ireland to New York City, USA when it struck an iceberg. Many ships rushed to help the Titanic, the most famous of them was the Carpethia(Car-Pai-Thee-Au). It went the fastest it could, flashing through the fields of ice. You might think that the Titanc’s passengers were panicking crazily but actually they were very calm. Britain and United States of America remember how brave the passengers were. In honor of the passengers who lost their lives people drop wreaths into the water where the Titanic sank. To this day we remember the terrifying accident. This year is the Titanic’s 100th year anniversary. Prayers will be held in remembrance of the passengers of the Titanic who lost their lives.
After the sinking of the Titanic it was discovered that the ship builders had cut corners and had made the steel sides of the Titanic thinner than the specified thickness. The ship builders had not put enough life boats on the Titanic as it was “The Unsinkable”. We’ve learnt that overconfidence can lead to horrible disasters.
